Indiana Republican Leadership Only Turned on Diego Morales After Political Damage Became Unavoidable

Indiana Republican leaders are facing escalating criticism after abruptly abandoning Secretary of State Diego Morales despite years of endorsements, public support, and silence over ethics concerns tied to foreign travel, no-bid contracts, campaign donors, and allegations involving former deputy chief of staff Elina Kupce. Critics argue party insiders only turned on Morales once they feared losing statewide elections and exposing deeper corruption inside the Indiana GOP power structure.

Of course, Todd Rokita endorsed Diego too, right. And Rokita knew what Diego was. And in fact, last year when Rokita was on with Casey Hendrickson up in northeast Indiana, Casey Hendrickson was the one guy who asked Rokita, why don’t you look into Diego? Why won’t you look into Diego? And he scoffed at it and said, not in my purview. Not my job. And Rokita gave Diego big money and endorsed him. And here’s what Rokita had to say. Now, again, all the stuff was known when Rokita made the endorsement. Right? Here’s what Rokita said yesterday about pulling his endorsement from Diego. He’s had self-inflicted wounds that bring into question his ability to be elected this fall. Okay. Well, I guess first of all, it’s like at least he’s admitted this is about the election. At least Rokita is admitting it’s all about the election. He doesn’t give a damn about protecting you as a taxpayer. He didn’t give a damn about your personal information potentially getting exposed to foreign countries. He doesn’t give a damn about the potential pay for play that was going on in there. He doesn’t care about any of that. He doesn’t care about any of it. He’s just like, at least to his credit. Yeah, it’s about the election.

Indiana Republican Leaders Reverse Course on Diego Morales After Years of Support

But Todd, what self-inflicted wounds other than Elina Kupce have surfaced since your endorsement. What are they? India had happened when Rokita made the endorsement. The no bid contracts had happened when Rokita had made the endorsement, the hiring of family members to ridiculous salary had happened when Rokita made the endorsement, the car had happened. The hanging out and palling around with the known felon had happened when Rokita made the endorsement. What self-inflicted wounds, other than this woman working in his office as a deputy chief of staff, had happened, Todd, since you made the endorsement? He didn’t want to answer that. Then Rokita rambled about usual, usual. This is what the Republicans do now. Every choice, every election is a battle for the republic, the soul of the country. And then so, you know, Rokita does his usual thing where he babbles about Republicans and Democrats evil and, you know, all that other stuff, right? And then he said, I don’t. This is the best ever. I don’t want the party that puts illegal aliens first and everything non Hoosier first inside this Statehouse. That was the direct quote from Rokita in his little press gaggle yesterday. Let me read it back to you because it’s very important. I don’t want the party that puts illegal aliens first and everything non Hoosier first inside the Statehouse. Here’s the problem, Todd. The guy you endorsed, according to Banks, had a noncitizen elevated to the chief of staff with zero qualifications and no one said a word, including you. This woman has disappeared. And the big question now is, was she here legally? And has she been kicked out of the country? Because according to Daniel Elliott, quote, we watched the SOS office struggle through corruption and scandals. Then his own chief of staff was here illegally. But, Todd, I don’t want the party that puts illegal aliens first and everything non Hoosier first inside the Statehouse. Oh, so if that’s true what Elliott said, you don’t want Republicans in charge anymore. Do the Democrats have any illegal people illegally in the country as their deputy chiefs of staff, Todd? Did the Democrats turn a blind eye to a noncitizen being a deputy chief of staff? Did the Democrats turn a blind eye to an illegal alien or a person in the country illegally being chief of staff? I don’t know if she is. I’m going off what Daniel Elliott said. Then his own chief of staff was here illegally. Maybe Daniel Elliott can clarify. I mean, he’s the treasurer. He said it. Is Elina Kupce still in the country? Was she here on an expired visa? How long was that visa expired? Banks, you’re a senator. You can figure all this out quick, right? Everyone should ask Jim Banks these questions today and ask him to get the answers. Ask Rokita. He’s the attorney general. The Democrats didn’t do this, Todd. Your guy did this. The guy, the guy that not only of your party, but you endorsed this. Tells you how stupid all these endorsements are. And it goes back to what I said about Trump’s endorsements. Todd didn’t even, well, allegedly. Todd allegedly didn’t even know this about a guy he knows. You think Trump knows anything about the people he endorsed? Trump couldn’t even get the office of the lady, right. She’s a county commissioner. No, sir. She’s a county council member. They’re very different. Todd, this is your guy, your party, not the Democrats. If it’s proven that this woman, I don’t know. I’m going by Daniel Elliott, treasurer of state. You think he’d know? If it’s proven this woman was illegally in the country and serving as a deputy chief of staff, now the Republicans are the party of illegal immigrants. Maybe she wasn’t. At the very least, the noncitizen. I mean, that’s a massive issue, right? The party of America First.

Questions Intensify Over Elina Kupce, Immigration Status Allegations, and What GOP Leaders Knew

Now, the media should not let these guys get away with this. I’m laying it out for you. What you’ve got to ask and look into. I’m doing all the work for you. Professor Kendall is in session. I’m telling you exactly what these guys are saying. I’m pointing out the flaws in it. I’m pointing out what you got to look into. I’m doing all the work for you. Everyone should ask Todd Rokita as the attorney general, which he can find out. Was this woman illegally in the country? Where is she now? Ask Banks. He’s a U.S. senator. He can find it out very fast. Don’t let him get away with the noncitizen stuff. We need to know now, is this woman illegally in the country? Was she illegally in the country? Is she still in the country? Bet they don’t want to answer those questions when you ask them. But everyone should be asking them. All right. So Diego. Diego, to his credit, said I ain’t going anywhere. Everybody thought yesterday, it’s over. Abdul. Abdul. Others were like, we’re hearing Diego’s going to get out. And then late yesterday afternoon, Diego put out a press release and he told Banks and Rokita and the rest of hypocrites are us to smooch his butt cheeks because he was staying in, quote, delegates will decide who will be the Republican nominee for Indiana secretary of state. The decision belongs in the hands and only the hands of Republican convention delegates, and I’m confident I’ll be renominated. I look forward to seeing Republican delegates in Fort Wayne on June 20th. Good on you, Diego. I think it was the Beatles who once said it best, I am he and you are me, and we are all together. And I think that’s what Diego Morales is saying here. I am, he and you are me, and we are all together. Because every one of these people knew what he was. Every one of these people knew what he was doing, what he represented, the people he ran around with, the people he had in his orbit. And none of them said a word. And I don’t know this for sure, just putting bits and pieces together. It wouldn’t surprise me if yesterday Diego Morales said, I’m gonna call your bluff. By the way, Diego don’t have a security clearance. So that really limits the sweetheart jobs they can give him. I mean, according to Connie Lawson, and Connie Lawson said that in her scathing letter that she put out about Diego, the golden parachute is limited with Diego because of all the crap he’s pulled. I don’t think you could give him, like, a job in the Trump administration because he don’t got a security clearance. Allegedly. And so I think Diego said yesterday. And by the way, don’t underscore. And remember. Isn’t it amazing how much I’m right about. I said yesterday, I said, I’m not sure he can quit. I’m not sure he can quit. What do you mean, Rob? Because if you look at some of the people that Diego is in bed with and their track records, they appear to be like Sopranos characters. The guy who’s done the most amount of reporting on this, have you ever want to, like, see the trail on some of these people as Indy reporter, the Indy Reporter account on Twitter at Indy underscore reporter underscore, and maybe he’ll start reposting some of these people that he’s looked into. Some of these people would have fit in perfectly with Tony and Paulie and Bobby and Silvio. And I don’t think they give generously because they were enthralled with Diego’s charisma and charm. I don’t, and some of these people aren’t traditional. Hey, wow. They’re just huge into politics and Republican people. Some of them are, but some of them aren’t.

Diego Morales Refuses Pressure Campaign as Internal Republican Power Struggle Escalates

And so I’m not sure Diego can quit, because I don’t think some of these people would look too fondly on giving money and not getting a desired result. And so I think yesterday, Diego, and I don’t know for sure this went down just a guess, sat around and probably realized the golden parachute is limited. If I quit now. It’s not like he made the announcement in January. He would make the announcement under a cloud of suspicion, which the media would then dig more because he would validate the suspicions which these people are validating anyway. But I think Morales, when he found out what the probably limited golden parachute was, he can’t quit the office. So he’s still going to be there for seven more months. And that means people would dig into him. And by the way, the other thing on this, whether Diego’s the nominee or not, the Bayhs are going to make him the issue. That’s people are like, I bet, I bet I almost said, Evan Bayh. I bet Beau Bayh is quaking in his britches over the announcement of Max Engling. Yeah, I’m sure Beau Bayh and his $10 million and straight out of central casting appearance and family name and unlimited resources. I’m sure he’s quaking that a guy who got smoked by Victoria Spartz is running, a guy who couldn’t even win his own delegate races running. I’m sure Beau Bayh is petrified about that. I’m sure Beau Bayh and Evan and the rest of the guys were sitting around the table. Oh, no. Max Engling. Oh, anyone but Max Engling. Oh, no! Hell, we should just give these millions of dollars back. It’s all over for us. No, Diego Morales is going to be the issue whether he’s the nominee or not, because all of these people look, the Bayhs aren’t in it to be secretary of state guys. I don’t think this needs to be said out loud. The Bayhs are not here. Like, oh man, maybe you can do an excellent job, son. Eight years being a quiet administrator, just issuing registrations to vote and certifying elections. Maybe you can go to the spend eight years doing your best job going to the motor vehicle advisory board meetings. No no no no no no no no no no no no no. This is not about Secretary of State. This is about the Bayhs reclaiming the Democrat Party in the state of Indiana, and their son, his son being the face and elevating him to be the governor of the state of Indiana. I don’t think I’m saying anything that’s a surprise to anyone. They’re going to take the party down. That’s what they’re doing. That’s what this is about. And all of these people, whether Diego’s the guy or not, are going to be potentially implicated in whatever crap Diego’s pulled by association. Beau Bayh has the dirt or the Diego in or Diego out. Here was the quote Beau Bayh had. Oh, this was a campaign manager for Beau Bayh. This is what he said. The corruption and insider dealing in Diego Morales’ Secretary of State office has been going on for years. And yet it wasn’t the luxury SUVs he’s purchased or the internal trips paid by unknown sources, or even the no bid contracts for donors that finally earned him an opponent. It’s a bunch of insiders realizing that Morales would probably lose to Beau Bayh in November. Bam! Oh, the Bayhs will say it. The Republicans won’t say it. They’ll lie. They’ll gaslight. They’ll deceive. But all that gaslighting and deception and everything else, it won’t take Diego off the ballot, whether he’s the nominee or not. I am he, and you are me. And we are all together now. See how they run like pigs from a gun. See how they run. I’m crying. Is that not what’s happening here? The piggies are running. And I think Diego yesterday called their bluff. I think Diego said ain’t no golden parachute. Nobody gives a damn about me if I don’t have anything to offer him. Everything dries up. And I think he looked at them and he said, there is a limit to which you will expose me. There is a limit to which you will tell people about me, because you guys get implicated too. Follow the money. Awesome. I hope he stays with it. Good for him. And look, the Republicans in this. Look, if I’m Diego Morales, I instantly turn myself into a victim here. If I’m Diego Morales, I turn myself into a victim. And I start pointing out all of these people because he got the dirt on them, too. It’s not a one way street. Don’t let them get away with it, Diego. Don’t let them take you down. They are the reason you are what you are. And you are where you are. If you’re going down, they go down, too. Good on him. This is everything I’ve wanted. I have talked about this for years. We are seeing the potential implosion of the Republican Party, which is what has to happen. All of these people have to get exposed. That is what my show has been about for all these years. It’s what we’re doing now is about all these years. And somebody very powerful yesterday called me and said, this is the greatest gift anyone could ever give you. And I said, you’re right. It is because they’ll all get exposed. And whatever person, as long as Diego stays in whatever one of the people squeaks through that convention, then it’s like final boss, right? You get to meet the Bayhs and you get to meet the Ballard campaign. If he gets those signatures. Here’s what Ballard said yesterday. And he’s right. This is why they were so worried about Ballard. They’re doing this because Ballard, they think, is going to be in the race and Ballard is going to pull the votes. Quote. This is what competitive elections do, create accountability where there hasn’t been any before. Bingo. What did I say in the Star article last week? Greg Ballard will pull votes from Republicans because he will create a safe harbor for people who hate the Republicans but can’t stand the Democrats. Absolutely. It’s why the Republicans don’t want competition. It’s why everything they do is about choking off competition, about making sure you don’t have options. It’s why they wanted John Rust gone, by the way. Third hour each day. Brought to you by John Rust. Thanks, John Rust. It’s why they wanted Rust off the ballot. Because Rust has a gajillion dollars and he don’t care. And he would have exposed all the Republican stuff. It’s why they keep making it harder and harder to run for public office. Republicans thrive on darkness. Republicans thrive on people being unable to participate. They thrive on a lack of competition. Where you go, well, I got two choices and the Democrats are so bad, I guess I’ll vote for this. That’s it. That’s what? That’s the only way they have been able to build this monopoly. Ballard went on to say, the same Republicans who just months ago proudly endorsed Diego Morales have suddenly determined he’s not fit to be their party’s nominee. His issues were not a secret, but party insiders have been more concerned about protecting the Indiana GOP than the good people of this state. Sadly, that has not changed. Greg Ballard is going to win a ton of votes out of this because people are paying attention to it. They’re looking at this going, this is the Republican Party. Holy smokes, it’s right. He’s right. People are going to see her and go, okay, Mr. Reasonable over here. If I were Greg Ballard and it turns out that Diego Morales is not the nominee and they go with this Engling guy, I would look at Beau Bayh, as I said before, somebody told me this yesterday. I said, it’s brilliant. It’s brilliant. I would look at Beau Bayh and say, you’re running on your birth certificate. And then I would turn to Max Engling, and I would do this on a debate stage in front of the entire state. And I would say you are running on Jim Banks letterhead. Brilliant. That is the line. Beau Bayh, you’re running on your birth certificate. Max Engling, you’re running on Jim Banks letterhead.

Greg Ballard and Beau Bayh Positioned to Benefit From Growing Indiana Republican Civil War

Ballard becomes the big winner in all of this if he can get on the ballot because the Republican Party, it’s not the Democrats that are the dumpster fire here. It’s the Republicans. It’s Republican on Republican attack. It’s glorious. I hope it never ends. Diego, you have to stay in. Don’t let them boss you around. They knew what you were. The other. The whole time. If you let your kid misbehave, you can’t be mad at them for misbehaving. Don’t get out of the race, Diego. And here’s the offer I made. And I was genuinely serious about this. I am extending the offer again to give Diego Morales as much time as he wants on this show. Now, look, Diego, let me tell you how this is going to go so you can prepare. I’m going to crap all over you for 20 minutes. I’m going to say all the things that you know I’m going to say. You’re going to look at me and shout, I pay, I pay. And then after 20 minutes, we’re going to start talking about these people who enabled you. Now in the most hypocritical way possible are making you out to be the Night Stalker. You will win a lot of sympathy if you do that interview, Diego. You’re going to deflect and deny and answer all the stuff. I already know that. It can’t hurt you at this point. People already know. I mean, I’m being genuinely serious. What I’m saying this, the best thing Diego could do is come on, come on the show. It would break Indiana politics if you came in and sat down for an interview. And we had the conversation. And it is your best chance to hang on to your job. Because while you may be corrupt and unethical and a hypocrite, they are too. And you need to make everybody know what they are. And then everybody knowing what they are. Look, the delegates aren’t the party apparatus. They’re part of it. But they’re not the party apparatus. They ain’t the whole thing. And the delegates have a track record. They have a track record of rejecting being told what to do by the party bosses. See the Attorney General’s race in 2008, where the Mitch Daniels endorsed candidate went down in flames. You don’t have to lose, Diego. You don’t have to lose.
